Common use

Novelon is a combined oral contraceptive used for birth control and menstrual regulation. It prevents ovulation, thickens cervical mucus to block sperm, and alters the uterine lining to reduce implantation chances.

Dosage and direction

Take one tablet daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Begin a new pack immediately after finishing the previous one to maintain continuous protection.

Precautions

Inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of blood clots, stroke, heart disease, liver problems, migraines with aura, high blood pressure, or breast cancer. Smoking increases cardiovascular risk, especially for women over 35.

Contraindications

Do not use Novelon if you are allergic to ethinylestradiol, levonorgestrel, or any other tablet components. It is contraindicated in patients with current or past thromboembolic disease, certain cancers, severe liver disease, or unexplained vaginal bleeding.

Common side effects may include nausea, headache, breast tenderness, bloating, and mild mood changes. Seek immediate medical attention for serious symptoms such as blood clots, stroke, heart attack, liver problems, or severe allergic reactions.

Drug interactions

Novelon may reduce contraceptive effectiveness when taken with certain antibiotics, antifungals, anticonvulsants, HIV medications, or herbal supplements like St. John's Wort. Always disclose all medications and supplements to your doctor.

Missed dose

If you miss a tablet, take it as soon as you remember. Continue the regular schedule and use additional contraceptive protection if needed based on the timing of the missed dose.

Overdose

Overdose is generally not life‑threatening but may cause nausea, vomiting, or spotting. Contact a healthcare professional if multiple tablets are ingested.

Storage

Store Novelon at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep tablets in their original packaging and out of reach of children.
