Depakene is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat various seizure disorders, bipolar disorder, and to prevent migraine headaches. The active ingredient, valproic acid, increases brain levels of gamma‑aminobutyric acid (GABA), helping to calm excessive nerve activity.

Dosage and Direction

Take Depakene exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually 1‑3 times daily with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow capsules whole; do not crush or chew.

Precautions

• Inform your doctor of any liver problems, urea cycle disorders, or history of depression.
• Regular liver function tests and blood counts may be required, especially in children.

Contraindications
