Buscopan is used to treat stomach cramps, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), menstrual cramps, and bladder spasms. It provides fast relief from cramping discomfort by relaxing smooth muscles in the digestive and urinary systems.
The usual adult dose of Buscopan is 10–20 mg, taken up to four times daily, depending on the condition. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Follow your doctor's instructions and do not exceed the recommended dose.
Before using Buscopan, inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, enlarged prostate, or heart rhythm disorders. Use cautiously if you have intestinal obstruction or severe constipation. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical advice.
Do not use Buscopan if you are allergic to hyoscine butylbromide. It is contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis, megacolon, or mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction.
Common side effects may include dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision, or increased heart rate. Serious allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Buscopan may interact with other anticholinergic medications, antihistamines, or antidepressants. These combinations can increase side effects such as dry mouth or rapid heartbeat. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Overdose may cause severe dry mouth, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, or difficulty urinating. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected. Treatment is usually supportive.
Store Buscopan at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date.
