Xalatan is used to reduce high intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma. It can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other glaucoma medications.
Use the medication exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Apply one drop to the affected eye in the evening.
Do not use Xalatan if you are hypersensitive to it, pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Xalatan should not be used with other eye drops containing thiomersal, as it may lead to the formation of solid substances in the eye. To avoid this, administer the drops at least 5 minutes apart.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Symptoms of Xalatan overdose include eye irritation and bloodshot eyes. If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
Store unopened bottles in the refrigerator. Once opened, the bottles may be kept at room temperature for up to 6 weeks. Protect the medication from light.
