Common Use
Vermox is used to treat infections caused by pinworms, whipworms, hookworms, and roundworms. Its active ingredient, mebendazole, prevents worms from growing or multiplying in the body.
Dosage and Directions
Take Vermex exactly as prescribed by your doctor, with a full glass of water.
Precautions
Follow all instructions from your doctor regarding treatment and hygiene practices, such as washing linens, clothing, and towels. Pinworm infections can easily spread from person to person.
Contraindications
- Discuss all medical conditions with your doctor before starting Vermox.
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy or if you could become pregnant during treatment.
- It is unknown whether Vermox passes into breast milk. Do not use it while breastfeeding without your doctor's approval.
- Children under 2 years old should not take mebendazole.
Possible Side Effects
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience allergic reactions such as hives, swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing.
- Less serious side effects may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, or fever. Continue taking Vermox and inform your doctor if these occur.
Drug Interactions
- The effectiveness of Vermox may be reduced by seizure medications such as ethotoin (Peganone), phenytoin (Dilantin), mephenytoin (Mesantoin), and carbamazepine (Tegretol).
- Consult your doctor before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, including vitamins, minerals, or herbal products.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Overdose
Symptoms of a Vermox overdose may include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Storage
- Store Vermox at room temperature, below 86°F (30°C), away from light and moisture.
- Do not store it in the bathroom.
- Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.
