Common Use

Urispas is an M-cholinoreceptor blocker that relaxes the muscles of the urinary tract. It is used to treat symptoms such as pain, burning, urinary urgency, and frequency caused by conditions like overactive bladder, nocturia, dysuria, prostate enlargement, bladder infections (e.g., cystitis), prostatitis, urethritis, and urethral irritation. The maximum effect is typically achieved within two hours of taking the medication.

Dosage and Direction

Adults and children over 12 years of age should take Urispas orally at a dose of 100-200 mg, 3-4 times daily. The dosage may be reduced as symptoms improve.

Precautions

• Inform your doctor if you are allergic to flavoxate, have narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary problems, or digestive tract blockages.
• This medication may cause drowsiness or blurred vision, which can be dangerous during activities requiring focus, such as driving or operating machinery.
• Do not start or stop any medication without your doctor's approval.
• Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, herbal products, and supplements you are taking.
• Seek immediate medical attention if you experience serious side effects like confusion, rapid heartbeats, hot and dry skin, chest fluttering, or inability to urinate.

Contraindications

Urispas is contraindicated in patients with:

• Obstructive diseases of the urinary tract or intestines.
• Stomach or duodenal ulcers.
• Intestinal obstruction or achalasia.
• Gastrointestinal bleeding.
• Angle-closure glaucoma.
• Children under 12 years of age.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side effects of Urispas include:

• Headache, dizziness, or drowsiness.
• Anxiety, blurred vision, or reduced visual acuity.
• Increased intraocular pressure or confusion (rare).
• Other potential reactions: spinning sensation, rapid heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, rash, dermatitis, or high fever.

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor if you are taking other bladder or urinary medications, such as tolterodine (Detrol), oxybutynin (Oxytrol, Ditropan), solifenacin (Vesicare), or darifenacin (Enablex).

Missed Dose

Never double the dose. If you miss a dose, skip it and continue with the next scheduled dose.

Overdose

Symptoms of Urispas overdose are not well-documented. If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately, as excessive medication intake can be harmful.

Storage

Store Urispas tablets at room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F) in a dry, airtight container away from moisture and sunlight.
