Trimox is a semisynthetic penicillin antibiotic containing amoxicillin as its active substance. It works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell walls, targeting bacteria such as N. gonorrhoea, H. influenzae, E. coli, Streptococci, Pneumococci, and some strains of Staphylococci. This medication is effective in treating bacterial infections affecting the middle ear, skin, upper and lower respiratory tract, and the genital and urinary tract.
Trimox is typically administered in the following dosages depending on the type of infection:
Take the medication with a full glass of water, with or without food. Dosage for children should be adjusted as per medical advice.
Follow your doctor's instructions precisely when taking Trimox. Do not start or stop the medication without consulting your healthcare provider. Complete the full course of treatment, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Diabetics should note that Trimox may cause false-positive urine glucose test results. Inform your doctor if you have a history of asthma, colitis, diabetes, or kidney or liver diseases.
Do not use Trimox if you are allergic to penicillin or any related antibiotics.
Common side effects of Trimox include:
If any side effects become severe or persistent, consult your doctor immediately.
Inform your doctor about all medications and herbal products you are taking, especially:
Note: Probenecid may reduce the renal tubular secretion of Trimox.
If you miss a dose, skip it and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
In case of an overdose, symptoms such as diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, stomach cramps, or vomiting may occur. Seek immediate medical attention.
Store Trimox at room temperature, between 20-25°C (68-77°F).
