Trandate is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure. It is classified as an adrenergic receptor blocker and works by blocking alpha and beta receptors, which helps lower blood pressure.
Typically, Trandate is administered as an injection in a medical setting. If you are using it at home, your doctor will provide instructions on how to properly administer the medication.
Inform your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Additionally, disclose any allergies, diabetes, adrenal gland tumor, kidney or liver problems, thyroid issues, heart conditions, low blood pressure, history of heart failure or heart attack, or recent surgery.
Do not use Trandate if you are allergic to any of its components, have second- or third-degree heart block, heart failure, abnormal heart function test results, moderate to severe first-degree heart block after a heart attack, asthma, severe slow heartbeat, or severe low blood pressure.
The most common side effects include pain, swelling, redness, nausea, dizziness, indigestion, lightheadedness, stuffy nose, temporary scalp tingling, and unusual tiredness.
Seek medical attention if you experience serious side effects such as allergic reactions, dark urine, fever, chills, persistent sore throat, mental or mood changes, chest pain, decreased sexual ability, muscle pain or tenderness, persistent loss of appetite, right upper stomach pain, shortness of breath, slow heartbeat, swelling of the hands or feet, unusual bruising or bleeding, vision changes, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Discuss all prescribed and over-the-counter medications with your doctor, especially digoxin, calcium channel blockers, general anesthetics, nitroglycerin, and beta-agonists.
If you miss a dose, skip it if your next dose is less than 8 hours away. Do not take extra medication to make up for the missed dose.
Symptoms of overdose include shortness of breath, severe dizziness or weakness (especially upon standing), and slow heartbeat. If you suspect an overdose, contact your local poison control center immediately.
Store Trandate away from light and moisture as directed by your doctor. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.
