Tiova is a long-acting muscarinic receptor antagonist designed to treat respiratory conditions. It specifically targets and reversibly blocks M3 receptors in the respiratory tract, leading to the relaxation of smooth muscles in the bronchial tree. The drug's high receptor affinity and slow release from the M3 receptor complex ensure prolonged local action. Tiova's bronchodilatory effect is dose-dependent and lasts for at least 24 hours. It is primarily used to manage bronchial spasms (wheezing) associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.
Tiova is available as capsules containing powder for inhalation, to be used with the HandiHaler device. It is recommended to take the medication at the same time each day for optimal results.
Concurrent use of Tiova with other anticholinergic medications is not recommended.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose. Maintain a consistent schedule to avoid missing doses.
No cases of overdose have been reported when Tiova is used at therapeutic doses. Excessive dosing may lead to anticholinergic symptoms such as temporary changes in accommodation and dry mouth. Acute poisoning is unlikely due to the drug's low bioavailability when inhaled.
Store Tiova at room temperature, away from moisture, sunlight, children, and pets. Keep it in a tightly sealed container.
