Tiova Inhaler is a long-acting muscarinic receptor antagonist. It works by reversibly blocking M3 receptors in the respiratory tract, leading to the relaxation of smooth muscles in the bronchial tree. The drug's high receptor affinity and slow release from the M3 receptor complex ensure prolonged local action. Its bronchodilator effect, which lasts for at least 24 hours, depends on the dosage. Tiova Inhaler is used to treat bronchial spasms (wheezing) associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.
Tiova Inhaler is available as capsules with powder for inhalation, used with the HandiHaler device. It should be taken at the same time each day for consistent results.
Exercise caution when using Tiova Inhaler in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urination disorders due to prostatic hypertrophy, or bladder neck obstruction. It is not intended for emergency relief of bronchial spasms. Avoid contact with the eyes. Regular monitoring is required for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, especially if they are taking other kidney-excreted medications. Inhaled medications may cause paradoxical bronchospasm or similar reactions. Avoid use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Tiova Inhaler should not be used by patients with hypersensitivity to the medication, atropine, or its derivatives (ipratropium, oxytropine). Its use in individuals under 18 years of age has not been studied.
Common side effects include local reactions such as dry mouth, throat pain, coughing, and paradoxical bronchospasm. If the medication enters the eyes, it may cause changes in accommodation. Allergic reactions like rash or swelling are possible. Rare side effects include rapid heartbeat, acute glaucoma, difficulty urinating in men with prostatic hypertrophy, and constipation.
Concomitant use of Tiova Inhaler with other anticholinergic medications is not recommended.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, do not take it if it is almost time for your next dose. Avoid doubling the dose. Consistently take your doses at the same time each day to minimize missed doses.
No overdose cases have been reported when Tiova Inhaler is used at therapeutic doses. Excessive doses may lead to anticholinergic symptoms like reversible changes in accommodation and dry mouth. Acute poisoning is unlikely due to the low bioavailability of the inhaled medication.
Store Tiova Inhaler at room temperature, away from moisture, sunlight, children, and pets. Keep it in a tightly sealed container.
