Common Use
Ticlopidine is a medication used to reduce the risk of stroke. It is a platelet aggregation inhibitor. It works by thinning blood, which helps to reduce the risk of blood clots and stroke. It can also be used in combination with aspirin to prevent blood clots after a coronary artery stent placement.
Dosage and Direction
Take Ticlopidine as directed by your doctor, with food.
Precautions
Before using Ticlopidine, discuss with your doctor if:
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast-feeding
- You have allergies to food, medicines, or other substances
- You are taking any prescribed or non-prescribed medications, herbal products, or dietary supplements
- You have an increased risk of bleeding due to trauma or surgery

Contraindications
Do not use Ticlopidine if:

- You have an active bleeding disorder (bleeding stomach ulcer, bleeding in the brain)
- You have a blood disease, blood clotting disorder, thrombocytopenic purpura, aplastic anemia, or severe liver problems
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects:

- Stomach pain

Seek urgent medical help if you experience these severe side effects:
- Allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)
- Blood in urine
- Chills
- Dark urine
- Difficulty speaking
- Fever
- Increased bleeding
- Light-colored stools
- Mouth sores
- Pale skin
- Pinpoint dots or rash on the skin
- Seizures
- Sore throat
- Unusual bruising or bleeding
- Weakness
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
Drug Interaction
Tell your doctor if you are taking these medications:
- Anticoagulants (warfarin)
- Aspirin
- Heparin
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs like ibuprofen)
- Carbamazepine
- Theophylline
- Antacids
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Ticlopidine, take it as soon as possible. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, contact your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store Ticlopidine at room temperature (59-86°F or 15-30°C) away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
