Terramycin is an antibiotic classified as a tetracycline. It is effective in treating bacterial infections by inhibiting the growth of sensitive bacteria. It works by interfering with the bacteria's ability to produce essential proteins, enabling the body's natural defenses to eliminate them.
Take Terramycin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It should be taken orally on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Avoid taking antacids, bismuth, iron, zinc, sodium bicarbonate, or calcium-rich foods within 2 to 3 hours of taking Terramycin. Complete the full course of treatment, even if symptoms improve within a few days.
Before using Terramycin, discuss your medical history with your doctor, especially if you have kidney or liver issues, allergies, are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, or taking other medications or supplements. Inform your doctor if you have diarrhea, stomach infections, or kidney problems.
Do not use Terramycin if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or other tetracycline antibiotics. Avoid Terramycin if you are taking acitretin or methoxyflurane.
Common side effects include black hairy tongue, blurred vision, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, fever, headache, hives, indigestion, mouth sores, nausea, rash, and sensitivity to sunlight. Severe side effects may include allergic reactions, infections, severe skin reactions to the sun, and vaginal irritation. Seek medical attention if severe side effects occur.
Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, especially atovaquone, lithium, oral contraceptives, penicillins, acitretin, isotretinoin, digoxin, methotrexate, methoxyflurane, or oral anticoagulants. Terramycin may affect the effectiveness or increase the side effects of these drugs.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
Store Terramycin at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Keep it away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep it in a tightly closed, light-resistant container and out of reach of children and pets.
