Common Use

Singulair is a leukotriene inhibitor used to treat asthma, prevent exercise-induced asthma, and manage allergic rhinitis. It helps with symptoms like sneezing, stuffy or runny nose, nasal itching, and indoor or outdoor allergies. Singulair works by blocking leukotrienes, substances in the body that trigger asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Dosage and Directions

For optimal results, take Singulair daily. Swallow the tablet whole with water or milk. If using a chewable tablet, chew it before swallowing.

• Adults and children 15 years and over: 10 mg once daily.
• Children 6 to 14 years: 5 mg once daily.
• Children 2 to 5 years: 4 mg once daily.
• Children 6 to 23 months: One packet of 4 mg oral granules once daily.

Take Singulair once in the evening. Note: Safety and effectiveness in children under 12 months have not been established. Always consult your doctor before use for the best results. These instructions are for review purposes only.

Precautions

Singulair should not be used to treat acute asthma attacks or as a substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Avoid use during pregnancy and lactation unless advised by a doctor. If you have asthma worsened by aspirin, continue avoiding aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) while taking Singulair.

Contraindications

Singulair is not recommended for patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

• Allergic reactions: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• Serious effects: skin rash, bruising, tingling, numbness, muscle weakness, mood changes, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, tremors, severe sinus pain, or worsening asthma symptoms.
• Less serious effects: headache, stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, tooth pain, tiredness, fever, stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, hoarseness, or mild rash.

Stop using Singulair and consult your doctor immediately if you experience severe side effects. Discuss any unusual symptoms with your healthcare provider.

Drug Interactions

Singulair may interact with:

• Cisapride, methscopolamine nitrate, nitrates, nitroprusside, or other sildenafil products.
• Drugs for high blood pressure, HIV/AIDS treatments, antifungal medications (e.g., fluconazole, itraconazole), cimetidine, erythromycin, or rifampin.

Drug interactions do not always require stopping a medication but may affect its effectiveness. Consult your doctor to manage interactions properly.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take it if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose. Resume your regular schedule the next day.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms may include thirst, drowsiness, dilated pupils, increased muscle movements, or severe stomach pain. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms.

Storage

Store Singulair at room temperature (59-77°F or 15-25°C) away from light, moisture, children, and pets. Do not use after the expiration date.
