Serophene is a non-steroid anti-estrogen medication. Its mechanism of action involves binding specifically to estrogen receptors in the ovary and pituitary gland. In patients with low estrogen levels, it produces an estrogenic effect, while in those with high estrogen levels, it acts as an anti-estrogen. Small doses increase the secretion of gonadotropins, such as prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and interstitial cell-stimulating hormone, promoting ovulation. In larger doses, it inhibits gonadotropin secretion. Overall, Serophene stimulates ovulation and prepares the body for pregnancy. It is also used to treat male infertility caused by low sperm production.
Serophene is typically taken to stimulate ovulation at a dosage of 50 mg once daily at bedtime, starting on the 5th day of the menstrual cycle for 5 days. If no ovulation occurs within 30 days, the dose may be increased to 150 mg daily or the course extended to 10 days. Always follow your doctor's instructions and do not exceed the prescribed dosage.
Before taking Serophene, inform your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions to clomiphene, liver disease, mental depression, or thrombophlebitis. This medication may cause vision problems, dizziness, or lightheadedness. Exercise caution when driving or operating machinery that requires focus.
Inform your doctor and laboratory staff about all medications and herbal products you are taking while on Serophene treatment.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose of Serophene.
Store Serophene in a dry place away from sunlight at room temperature, between 15-30°C (59-86°F).
