Common Use

Seroflo Inhaler is used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) linked to chronic bronchitis. It comes in the form of an oral inhaler and contains two active ingredients: fluticasone propionate (Flovent) and salmeterol (Serevent). Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the lungs, while salmeterol, a long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA), relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, widens airways, and provides prolonged relief. Together, these ingredients help prevent wheezing and shortness of breath.

Dosage and Direction

Seroflo Inhaler should be used twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, approximately 12 hours apart. Avoid using it more frequently than prescribed, as excessive use may worsen heart irregularities. Use with caution if you have any heart conditions or high blood pressure.

Precautions

Stopping Seroflo Inhaler suddenly can worsen asthma or other breathing problems like emphysema or bronchitis. This medication is not intended for sudden asthma or bronchitis attacks. Do not use it if your asthma is well-controlled with another medication or if you only need occasional short-acting drugs. Inform your doctor if you:

• Are taking ritonavir (an anti-HIV drug)
• Have a history of allergies, diabetes, heart disorders, high blood pressure, immune system issues, liver or kidney failure
• Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have thyroid disorders, seizures, or osteoporosis
• Have been exposed to chickenpox or measles

Contraindications

Seroflo Inhaler should not be used for primary treatment of status asthmaticus, acute asthma, or COPD episodes. It is also contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the medication and in children under 4 years old.

Possible Side Effects

This medication may increase the risk of pneumonia. Symptoms like fever, chills, increased mucus production, changes in mucus color, worsening cough, or breathing difficulties could indicate pneumonia. Contact your doctor immediately if these occur or if your breathing problems worsen during treatment.

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:

• Tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, imipramine)
• MAO inhibitors (e.g., phenelzine, tranylcypromine)
• Beta blockers (e.g., atenolol, propranolol)
• Ketoconazole
• Long-acting inhalers (e.g., formoterol, salmeterol xinafoate)
• Diuretics (e.g., furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide)

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose. Try to take your doses at the same time each day to avoid missing them.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include severe headache, fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, or tremors. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

Storage

Store Seroflo Inhaler at room temperature, away from moisture, sunlight, children, and pets. Keep it in a tightly closed container.
