Rogaine contains minoxidil and is used to treat hair loss in women by improving blood circulation in the vessels of the scalp. It can also be used to treat male pattern baldness on the top of the head.
Apply 1 ml of the solution (half a capful of foam) topically to the scalp and dry hair once in the morning and once in the evening. Leave it on for at least four hours. After use, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water. Avoid getting the medication into your eyes, mouth, or nose. Do not exceed 2 ml of the medication per day, as increased use will not improve hair growth and may worsen side effects. Results may take at least four months to appear. Rogaine is less effective in elderly patients with larger areas of baldness. Do not stop using the medication even if you see positive results; discontinue only after your doctor's approval.
Rogaine should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to minoxidil or inactive components of the drug, such as propylene glycol or ethanol.
No drugs are known to interact with Rogaine explicitly. However, it may theoretically interact with vasodilators, causing orthostatic hypotension in patients. The effectiveness of Rogaine may be reduced by paracetamol and diethylcarbamazine. Concurrent use with tretinoin or anthralin/dithranol may increase its absorption.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, as it may increase side effects.
Store Rogaine at room temperature, between 59-86°F (15-30°C), in a tightly closed, dark container. Keep it away from heat, moisture, and sunlight.
