Revatio is a medication primarily used to treat pulmonary hypertension, a condition characterized by increased blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, vein, or capillaries. This condition can lead to symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, and fainting. Revatio works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing them to transport more blood and oxygen, thereby reducing pulmonary blood pressure. The active ingredient in Revatio is sildenafil, which is also found in Viagra. This makes Revatio potentially useful for treating certain men's health issues.
Take one Revatio tablet (20 mg) three times daily, with or without food. Ensure each dose is spaced 4-6 hours apart. For optimal results, maintain a regular dosing schedule with equal intervals between doses.
Before taking Revatio, inform your doctor if you have a history of conditions such as heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeat, chest pain (angina), high or low blood pressure, blood vessel disorders, circulation problems, retinitis pigmentosa, liver or kidney disease, penile deformity, sickle cell anemia, porphyria, blood or bone marrow cancer, stomach ulcers, or stomach bleeding. Revatio may worsen the cardiovascular health of patients with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease.
Revatio is not recommended for children under 12 years old, patients taking medications containing organic nitrates, or individuals with hypersensitivity to sildenafil or other components of the drug.
Revatio is generally well-tolerated, but potential side effects may include fever, flushing, headache, muscle aches, nasal infection, nosebleeds, shortness of breath, sleeplessness, sinus infection, and upset stomach. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, seek medical attention immediately.
Revatio should not be taken with medications containing sildenafil (e.g., Viagra, Kamagra), organic nitrates, antifungal drugs like ketoconazole and itraconazole, or the anti-HIV drug Ritonavir. Inform your doctor about all medications and herbal products you are using, especially alpha-blockers, barbiturates, Bosentan, Carbamazepine, Rifabutin, Rifampin, Phenytoin, and vitamin K antagonists, as your Revatio dosage may need adjustment.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose symptoms are similar to those at lower doses but may be more severe. If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical assistance.
Store Revatio at room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F), away from children, pets, moisture, and sunlight.
