Qvar (beclomethasone dipropionate) is prescribed for the long‑term management of asthma. It reduces inflammation and swelling in the airways, improving breathing and helping to prevent asthma attacks. It is not intended for sudden or severe asthma symptoms.
Qvar is inhaled using an inhaler device, usually twice daily or as prescribed. Shake the inhaler, exhale fully, then inhale the medication deeply through the mouth. Rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent irritation or fungal infection. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions exactly.
Inform your doctor if you have a history of infections (viral, bacterial, or fungal), tuberculosis, glaucoma, cataracts, osteoporosis, or immune‑system problems. Do not use Qvar during an acute asthma attack. Long‑term use may affect adrenal gland function or bone health.
Do not use Qvar if you are allergic to beclomethasone or any component of the inhaler. It is not suitable for relief of sudden breathing problems that require a rescue inhaler.
Common side effects include throat irritation, cough, hoarseness, dry mouth, and headache. More serious effects may include oral thrush, vision changes, worsening breathing problems, or allergic reactions. Seek medical help if severe or persistent symptoms occur.
Qvar may interact with immunosuppressants, antifungal medications, oral corticosteroids, and drugs that affect the immune system. Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, inhalers, and supplements you are using.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.
Overuse may lead to symptoms of corticosteroid excess, such as adrenal suppression, fatigue, or hormonal imbalance. Seek medical advice if overdose is suspected.
Store the inhaler at room temperature away from heat, open flame, and direct sunlight. Do not puncture or burn the canister. Keep out of reach of children.
