Prednisolone is a synthetic version of the hormones cortisone and hydrocortisone. It has strong anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, antishock, and detoxifying effects. It works by binding to glucocorticosteroid receptors in cells, which helps reduce inflammation by blocking certain chemicals involved in the inflammatory process. It can also decrease the production of substances that trigger allergic reactions. Prednisolone is used to treat a wide range of conditions including allergies, skin disorders, arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, asthma, leukemia, eczema, and adrenal gland issues.
The dosage of Prednisolone varies depending on the condition being treated. For acute conditions, the initial dose is typically 5-60 mg per day, while the maintenance dose is usually 5-10 mg per day. Always follow your doctor's instructions and do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Possible side effects of Prednisolone include weight gain, excess hair growth, acne, menstrual irregularities, osteoporosis, stomach ulcers, high blood sugar, and mental health issues. Long-term use may lead to more severe conditions like Itsenko-Cushing syndrome or thinning skin. If you experience vision changes, severe depression, or unusual bleeding, contact your doctor immediately.
Prednisolone may interact with anti-diabetic or anticoagulant medications, requiring dose adjustments. Patients with Addison disease should use caution when combining Prednisolone with barbiturates.

While an overdose of Prednisolone is unlikely to be life-threatening, prolonged use can lead to complications such as thinning skin, easy bruising, or changes in body fat distribution. Seek medical advice if you experience these symptoms.
Store Prednisolone at room temperature, ideally between 20-25°C (68-77°F). Keep it away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. Do not store it in the bathroom or in areas accessible to children.
