Common use

Nexavar (sorafenib) is prescribed for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, advanced renal cell carcinoma, and radioactive‑iodine resistant differentiated thyroid carcinoma. It acts as a multi‑kinase inhibitor, blocking enzymes that promote tumor growth and new blood vessel formation.

Dosage and direction

Take Nexavar orally twice daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets. Dosage is individualized based on body weight, liver function, and tolerability. Regular monitoring of liver function, blood counts, and blood pressure is recommended.

Precautions

Inform your doctor of liver or kidney disease, heart problems, high blood pressure, bleeding disorders, or history of gastrointestinal perforation. Avoid activities that increase bleeding or injury risk. Report unexplained weight loss, severe diarrhea, skin changes, or unusual pain.

Contraindications

Do not use Nexavar if allergic to sorafenib or any component. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to fetal risk. Use cautiously in patients with severe liver impairment or cardiovascular disease.

Possible side effects

Common side effects include diarrhea, fatigue, rash, hand‑foot skin reactions, nausea, high blood pressure, and hair thinning. Serious side effects may involve liver toxicity, bleeding, heart problems, gastrointestinal perforation, or severe allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention for serious symptoms.

Drug interactions

Nexavar may interact with anticoagulants, other cancer medications, CYP3A4 inducers/inhibitors, and certain antibiotics or antifungals. Inform your doctor of all prescription drugs, over‑the‑counter medications, and supplements.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may cause severe diarrhea, bleeding, liver toxicity, or cardiovascular complications. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Nexavar at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep tablets in the original container and out of reach of children.
