Mydriacyl (tropicamide) eye drops are used to dilate the pupil for eye examinations and procedures. The medication relaxes the iris muscles, allowing eye care professionals to get a better view of the internal eye structures.
Apply Mydriacyl as directed by your physician. Typically, one or two drops are placed in the affected eye(s) 15 to 30 minutes before an eye exam. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or any surface to avoid contamination.
Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, an eye injury, an eye infection, or a known allergy to eye medications. Avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision returns to normal. Remove contact lenses before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
Do not use Mydriacyl if you are allergic to tropicamide or any component of the formulation. Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma or a history of eye trauma or surgery.
Common side effects include temporary blurred vision, stinging, burning, or mild eye irritation. Serious side effects may include increased intraocular pressure, severe allergic reactions, headache, or rapid heartbeat. Seek medical attention if serious symptoms occur.
Mydriacyl may interact with other ocular medications that affect intraocular pressure. Inform your healthcare provider about all eye drops or systemic medications you are currently using.
For diagnostic use, a missed dose is usually not critical. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding scheduled applications.
Excessive use can cause severe eye irritation, redness, or systemic effects such as rapid heartbeat or flushing. Contact a medical professional if overdose symptoms appear.
Store Mydriacyl at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
