Motegrity is a prescription medication used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. The active ingredient, prucalopride, is a selective serotonin‑4 (5‑HT₄) receptor agonist that enhances colonic motility and promotes regular bowel movements.
Take Motegrity once daily at the same time, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water and follow your doctor's dosing instructions exactly.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of intestinal obstruction, severe liver disease, or mood disorders. Caution is advised for patients experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, as rare psychiatric side effects have been reported.
Common side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Rare but serious side effects may involve mood changes, palpitations, or allergic reactions.
Prucalopride has a low potential for drug interactions, but inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, especially those that affect the central nervous system or kidney function.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one - never double the dose.
Symptoms of overdose may include severe diarrhea, headache, or abdominal cramps. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Store Motegrity at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication in its original packaging and out of reach of children.
