Common Use

Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It is used to treat various conditions including acne, actinomycosis, bacterial infections, bullous pemphigoid, meningitis, meningococcal pemphigoid, pemphigus, rheumatoid arthritis, rosacea, skin and structure infections, skin infections, gonorrhea, and chlamydiosis.

Dosage and Directions

Take Minocycline with or without food, accompanied by a full glass of water. Avoid consuming dairy products while taking this medication. Follow your doctor's prescription carefully, not exceed the recommended dose or duration of use. Extended-release pills should not be crushed, chewed, or broken. For liquid suspensions, shake well before use and measure the dose with a special measuring spoon.

Precautions

• Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.
• Avoid in children under 8 years old, as prolonged use may cause permanent tooth discoloration.
• Limit exposure to UV radiation.
• Avoid taking iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives at the same time as Minocycline. Take these medications at least two hours before or after Minocycline.
• Exercise caution when performing tasks requiring high concentration, such as driving.

Hypersensitivity to Minocycline or other tetracycline antibiotics.

Possible Side Effects

Potential side effects include:

• Hives, rash, or swelling of the face and tongue
• Trouble swallowing, severe headache, dizziness, or blurred vision
• Fever, chills, body aches, or severe blistering and peeling of the skin
• Reduced urination, pale or yellowed skin, dark urine, confusion, or weakness
• Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fast heart rate, jaundice, or easy bruising and bleeding

Drug Interactions

• Avoid combining tetracycline-class drugs with penicillin.
• Minocycline may reduce plasma prothrombin levels; adjust doses if used with anticoagulants.
• Absorption is impaired by antacids containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium, or iron.
• Concurrent use with methoxyflurane may cause fatal renal toxicity.
• May reduce the effectiveness of certain birth control pills.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.

Overdose

Seek medical attention immediately if you experience severe or persistent symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 59-77°F (15-25°C), away from sunlight, moisture, children, and pets. Do not use after the expiration date.
