Minipress is primarily used to treat hypertension, either on its own or in combination with other antihypertensive medications like diuretics or beta-adrenergic blocking agents. It is also effective in managing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The active ingredient in Minipress is prazosin hydrochloride.
Always take Minipress exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip doses, as irregular intake can increase the risk of high blood pressure. Do not stop using this medication without consulting your doctor, even if your symptoms improve. The usual recommended dose is 1 mg taken two or three times daily. This dosage may be gradually increased up to 20 mg per day, divided into multiple doses.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Minipress can pass into breast milk and harm your baby. Low blood pressure may occur, especially after the first few doses. You may experience dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting, particularly when standing up from a lying position. Avoid driving or performing hazardous tasks when starting treatment or adjusting the dosage. Be cautious in hot weather, during exercise, or when standing for prolonged periods, as these situations may exacerbate dizziness or fainting.
Minipress should not be used by patients who are hypersensitive to its components, quinazolines, prazosin, or similar medications like doxazosin and terazosin.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, palpitations (a pounding heartbeat), lack of energy, or weakness.
When Minipress is taken with diuretics or other antihypertensive medications, the dosage of Minipress may need to be reduced. Combining Minipress with PDE-5 inhibitors can lead to additive blood pressure-lowering effects. Consult your doctor before taking Minipress with beta blockers (e.g., propranolol), Dextroamphetamine, diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide), Ibuprofen, other high blood pressure medications, or Verapamil. Alcohol may enhance the effects of Minipress.
Never take a double dose of Minipress. If you miss a dose and it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.
If you suspect an overdose and experience symptoms such as profound drowsiness, depressed reflexes, or low blood pressure, seek immediate medical attention.
Store Minipress tablets at room temperature, between 15-30°C (59-86°F).
