Inspra is prescribed to treat high blood pressure and heart failure following a heart attack. It works by blocking aldosterone, a hormone responsible for salt and fluid retention, which helps lower blood pressure and reduces strain on the heart.
Take Inspra once or twice daily, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. The dosage depends on your medical condition, kidney function, and blood potassium levels.
Before using Inspra, inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, high potassium levels, or are taking potassium supplements. Regular monitoring of blood potassium levels and kidney function is essential during treatment.
Do not use Inspra if you have high potassium levels (hyperkalemia), severe kidney impairment, or are taking strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
Inspra (eplerenone) may interact with potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, and certain antibiotics. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at once.
In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms may include confusion, fainting, or an irregular heartbeat due to electrolyte imbalance.
Store Inspra at room temperature away from moisture, light, and heat. Keep it in its original container and out of reach of children.
