Common Use
Glyburide contains glyburide, a medication that lowers blood glucose levels. It belongs to the sulfonylureas class of diabetic drugs. Insulin is produced in the pancreas and helps reduce glucose synthesis in the liver while stimulating the body's cells to absorb glucose from the blood. Patients with type 2 diabetes either do not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively. This leads to increased glucose production by the liver, and the pancreas cannot compensate adequately. Glyburide works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin.

The initial dose of Glyburide is 2.5-5 mg per day. The maximum daily dose ranges from 1.25-20 mg. Take Glyburide with the first main meal of the day.
