Floxin is an anti-microbial medication from the fluoroquinolone group, a class of synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotics. It works by preventing the unwinding and duplication of bacterial DNA, making it effective against a wide range of resistant and polyresistant microorganisms. This medication is prescribed to treat infections of the respiratory system (ears, throat, nose), skin, soft tissues, osteomyelitis, abdominal infections, kidney and urinary tract infections, prostatitis, gynecological infections, and gonorrhea.
Floxin should not be taken with food. Dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction. Avoid consuming Floxin with antacids, minerals, or vitamins containing iron, as they can block its absorption.
During treatment with Floxin, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Floxin is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to quinolones, epilepsy, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and children or teenagers younger than 15 years old.
The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, headache, dizziness, itching, and vaginitis in women. Rare allergic reactions, such as hives and anaphylaxis, may occur. Symptoms of nervous system stimulation, such as anxiety, euphoria, and hallucinations, are infrequent.
Floxin may interact with caffeine, cyclosporine, theophylline (used for asthma), warfarin (an anticoagulant), and medications for diabetes.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe symptoms such as persistent drowsiness, nausea, hot or cold sensations, confusion, or slurred speech.
Store Floxin at room temperature (59-77°F or 15-25°C) away from light, moisture, children, and pets. Do not use it after the expiration date.
