Common Use

Flavoxate HCl is an M-cholinoreceptor blocker that relaxes urinary tract muscles. It is used to treat symptoms caused by overactive bladder, urinary tract infections, and other conditions, including:

• Pain and burning during urination
• Urinary urgency and frequency
• Nocturia (nighttime urination)
• Dysuria
• Prostate enlargement
• Cystitis, prostatitis, and urethritis (symptomatic relief)

The maximum effect occurs within two hours after taking the medication.

Dosage and Direction

For adults and children over 12 years:

• Take 100-200 mg orally, 3-4 times daily.
• Dosage may be reduced as symptoms improve.

Precautions

Before taking Flavoxate HCl, inform your doctor if you:

• Have allergies to flavoxate or similar medications.
• Suffer from narrow-angle glaucoma.
• Experience urinary retention or digestive tract blockages.

Possible side effects include drowsiness and blurred vision, avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Do not start or stop other medications without medical approval. Seek immediate help if you experience:

• Confusion or pounding heartbeat
• Hot, dry skin or chest fluttering
• Sudden inability to urinate

Contraindications

Do not use Flavoxate HCl if you have:

• Hypersensitivity to the drug
• Urinary tract obstructions
• Intestinal blockages or ulcers
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• Angle-closure glaucoma
• Achalasia (esophageal sphincter dysfunction)
• Age under 12 years

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
• Anxiety or blurred vision
• Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting

Rare but serious reactions:

• Confusion or rapid heartbeat
• Skin rash, fever, or low white blood cell count

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor if taking other urinary medications, such as:

• Tolterodine (Detrol)
• Oxybutynin (Oxytrol, Ditropan)
• Solifenacin (Vesicare)
• Darifenacin (Enablex)

Missed Dose

Do not double the dose. Skip the missed dose if it's almost time for the next one.

Overdose

Symptoms are not well-documented. Seek medical help immediately if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store at 15-30°C (59-86°F) in a dry, tight container away from light and moisture.
