Common use
This anti-tuberculosis medication has a bacteriostatic effect, suppressing bacterial protein synthesis to inhibit the growth and propagation of tuberculosis mycobacteria both intracellularly and extracellularly. Ethionamide enhances phagocytosis at tuberculosis inflammation sites, promoting resolution. It may also be effective against leprosy (Hansen's disease).
