Dulcolax is a medication designed to alleviate occasional constipation and irregularity. As a stimulant laxative, it works by directly acting on the bowels, stimulating the bowel muscles to induce a bowel movement.
Take Dulcolax orally with or without food, accompanied by a full glass of water. It is advisable to consume additional fluids while using Dulcolax. Swallow the tablet whole; do not break, crush, or chew it. Avoid taking Dulcolax within 1 hour of consuming antacids or milk.
Before using Dulcolax, consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Additionally, inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, herbal products, or dietary supplements. Discuss any known allergies to food, medicines, or other substances. Special caution is needed if you have heart failure, abnormal fluid or electrolyte levels, nausea, vomiting, or unexplained stomach pain.
Do not use Dulcolax if you have difficulty swallowing without chewing, severe stomach pain, appendicitis, severe constipation, stomach, intestinal, or rectal bleeding, intestinal blockage, or if you are scheduled for abdominal surgery.
Common side effects include faintness, cramps, and stomach discomfort. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience serious side effects such as allergic reactions, which may manifest as a rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
No specific drug interactions are currently known for Dulcolax.
If you miss a dose of Dulcolax while taking it regularly, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
If you suspect an overdose of Dulcolax, seek medical attention immediately. Overdose symptoms may include diarrhea and stomach cramps.
Store Dulcolax at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 and 25 degrees Celsius), in a tightly sealed container away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Dulcolax out of reach of children and pets.
