Common Use

Desmopressin nasal spray is used to prevent or control frequent urination and water loss caused by diabetes insipidus. This condition leads to excessive urination, which can disrupt sleep and sometimes cause bed-wetting. The active substance in this medication is desmopressin acetate.

Dosage and Direction

The usual dose ranges from 1 to 4 sprays daily (0.1 to 0.4 ml), depending on the medical condition and response to treatment. For children aged 3 months to 12 years, the recommended dose is 0.05 to 0.3 ml daily, taken as a single dose or divided into 2 doses.

• Do not use more frequently than prescribed
• Avoid drinking excessive liquids while using this medication
• Never swallow the nasal spray or let it run into your mouth

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with:

• Cystic fibrosis
• Fluid and electrolyte imbalance
• High blood pressure
• Coronary artery disease

Contact your doctor if you experience continued nasal bleeding while using this medication.

Contraindications

Do not use this medication if you have a hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Possible Side Effects

High doses may cause:

• Nausea and headache
• Mild abdominal cramps
• Nasal irritation or stuffiness

Drug Interactions

• Clofibrate or Glyburide
• Carbamazepine or chlorpropamide
• Water pills (diuretics)

Note that alcohol consumption may increase urination when taken with this medication.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose:

• Take it as soon as you remember
• Skip it if it's almost time for your next dose
• Never double the dose
• Continue with your regular schedule the next day

Overdose

Excessive doses may be dangerous. Seek immediate medical help if you suspect an overdose. Symptoms may include:

• Abdominal cramps
• Headache
• Flushing
• Nausea

Storage

Store this medication:

• At room temperature (59-77°F or 15-25°C)
• Away from light and moisture
• Out of reach of children and pets
