Common Use
Generic DDAVP nasal spray is used to prevent or control frequent urination and water loss caused by diabetes insipidus. This condition is characterized by excessive urination, which can disrupt sleep and sometimes lead to bed-wetting. The active substance in this medication is desmopressin acetate.
Dosage and Direction
The usual dosage ranges from 1 to 4 sprays daily (0.1 to 0.4 ml), depending on your medical condition and response to DDAVP.
- For children aged 3 months to 12 years: The recommended dose is 0.05-0.3 ml daily, either as a single dose or divided into 2 doses
- Do not use more frequently than prescribed
- Avoid excessive liquid intake while using DDAVP
- Never swallow the medication or let the liquid run into your mouth
Precautions
Use caution if you have:
- Cystic fibrosis
- Fluid and electrolyte imbalance
- High blood pressure
- Coronary artery disease
Contact your doctor if you experience continued nasal bleeding while using DDAVP.
Contraindications
Do not use this medicine if you have hypersensitivity to any components of DDAVP.
