Crestor is a medication designed to lower cholesterol levels when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient.
Take Crestor with or without food, once a day. Swallow each tablet whole with water or milk. The typical dose ranges from 5 to 40 mg. A 40 mg dose is used for patients who do not achieve their LDL-C goal with 20 mg.
For conditions like hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and atherosclerosis, the starting dose is 10 mg. A 20 mg dose is recommended for patients with LDL-C levels above 190 mg/dL. For HoFH, the starting dose is 20 mg.
Crestor is part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes diet, exercise, and weight control. Always follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Note: This information is for review purposes only. Consult your doctor before starting any medication to achieve the best results.
Do not use Crestor if you have liver or kidney problems, myopathy, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking cyclosporin. Consult your doctor if you are on other medications, including over-the-counter drugs. Specifically, inform your doctor if you are taking gemfibrozil, cyclosporin, warfarin, antacids, erythromycin, or oral contraceptives.
Crestor is not suitable for patients with hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin, active liver disease, severe renal impairment, myopathy, or those taking ciclosporin. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy, lactation, and in women of childbearing potential not using contraception. The 40 mg dose is contraindicated in patients with risk factors for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, including moderate renal impairment, hypothyroidism, family history of muscular disorders, alcohol abuse, or concurrent use of fibrates.
Possible side effects include allergic reactions, muscle pain, dark urine, nausea, stomach pain, jaundice, chest pain, or swelling in hands or feet. Less serious side effects may include weakness, dizziness, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, sore throat, runny nose, memory loss, headache, or pain during urination. If you experience any unusual side effects, stop using Crestor and consult your doctor immediately.
Do not take Crestor with herbal medicines like red yeast rice or other cholesterol-lowering drugs. It may also interact with alcohol, antacids, cyclosporine, niacin, or warfarin. Always consult your doctor to manage potential drug interactions.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Symptoms of a Crestor overdose may include liver damage, kidney failure, pancreatitis, jaundice, or rhabdomyolysis. Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
Store Crestor at room temperature (59-77°F or 15-25°C) away from light, moisture, children, and pets. Do not use after the expiration date.
