Cozaar is a medication used to treat hypotension by specifically blocking angiotensin II receptors. It reduces total peripheral resistance, aldosterone levels in the blood, arterial pressure, and pressure in the pulmonary circulation while exerting a diuretic effect. Angiotensin, a protein, narrows blood vessels and increases blood pressure, but Cozaar prevents this by blocking its receptors. This medication is prescribed for hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy (muscle enlargement), and diabetic nephropathy.
Cozaar can be taken with or without food, typically once a day. In some cases, the total daily dose may be divided into two intakes. Always follow your doctor's instructions and avoid altering the prescribed dosage.
Cozaar is generally well-tolerated, but if side effects develop or worsen, consult your doctor immediately.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
If you suspect an overdose and experience extremely slow or rapid heartbeat or a significant drop in blood pressure, seek immediate medical attention.
Store Cozaar in a dry place away from sunlight at room temperature.
