This medication belongs to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors class. It is prescribed for the treatment of arterial hypertension, chronic heart failure, and the prevention of recurrent stroke in patients who have experienced a stroke or transient ischemic attack. It is also used in stable coronary heart disease to reduce complications in affected patients.
Take this medication orally before a meal, as a single daily dose at the same time each day. For arterial hypertension, the initial dosage is 4 mg, which may be increased to a maximum daily dose of 8 mg if necessary. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it longer than prescribed by your doctor.
This drug can cause serious fetal harm, including potential death, if used during the last six months of pregnancy. Avoid alcohol while taking this medication. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements if you are concurrently being treated with Coversyl.
Notify your doctor if you experience any of the following: headache, dry cough, nausea, unusual weakness, back pain, or diarrhea. Other possible side effects include arterial hypotension, chest pain, anemia, and elevated hemoglobin levels (especially at the start of treatment). In rare cases, this medication may cause serious (potentially fatal) liver dysfunction.

Avoid medications that may increase your heart rate, such as decongestants or caffeine.
Do not take a double dose of this medication. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.
Symptoms of a Coversyl overdose may include extreme dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms occur.
Store the medication at room temperature, between 59-86°F (15-30°C), away from light and moisture.
