Compazine is an antipsychotic medication used to treat psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. It is also effective in controlling severe nausea and vomiting and managing anxiety. Compazine works by altering the actions of certain chemicals in the brain. It is commonly prescribed as both a tranquilizer and an antipsychotic drug.
Take Compazine orally with a full glass of water, with or without food or milk. The recommended dosage for adults varies depending on the condition being treated:
For children, the dosage depends on their age, weight, and condition:
Older Adults: Consult your doctor before use to determine the appropriate dose.
Use Compazine cautiously in individuals with hepatic or renal disease, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, severe asthma, prolonged use, cardiovascular disease, or epilepsy. Do not use in children under 5 years of age. Avoid Compazine during pregnancy, if planning to become pregnant, or while breastfeeding without medical advice.
Compazine should not be used by individuals hypersensitive to its components. It is contraindicated in cases of severe toxic CNS depression, coma, subcortical brain damage, bone marrow depression, severe liver or cardiac disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, and pediatric surgery.
Less Serious Side Effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, insomnia, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, mild itching, or headache. If any side effects occur, stop using Compazine and consult your doctor immediately.
Drug interactions may affect how Compazine works. Always consult your doctor to manage or adjust medications if necessary.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.
Symptoms of overdose may include dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, agitation, changes in heart rate, fever, or fainting. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Store Compazine at room temperature, between 20-25°C (68-77°F).
