Clomid is a non-steroid anti-estrogen drug. Its mechanism of action involves binding specifically to estrogen receptors in the ovary and pituitary gland. In patients with low estrogen levels, it produces an estrogenic effect, while in those with high estrogen levels, it acts as an anti-estrogen. Small doses of Clomid increase the secretion of gonadotropins, such as prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and interstitial cell-stimulating hormone, thereby stimulating ovulation. In larger doses, it slows down gonadotropin secretion. Overall, Clomid stimulates ovulation and prepares the body for pregnancy. It is also used to treat male infertility caused by low sperm production.
Clomid is typically administered to stimulate ovulation at a dose of 50 mg once daily at bedtime, starting from the 5th day of the menstrual cycle for 5 days (if there is no menstrual cycle, it can be started at any time). If ovulation does not occur within 30 days, the dose may be increased to 150 mg per day or the course extended to 10 days. Always take the medication as prescribed and avoid taking it in larger quantities.
Before taking Clomid, inform your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions to clomiphene, liver disease, mental depression, or thrombophlebitis. This medication may cause vision problems, dizziness, or lightheadedness, so exercise caution when driving or operating machinery that requires high concentration.
In addition to allergic reactions such as swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives, some patients may experience the following:
Inform your doctor and laboratory operators about all medications and herbal products you are taking if you are being treated with Clomid.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose. Do not take an extra dose to make up for the missed one.
If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
Store Clomid in a dry place away from sunlight at room temperature, between 15-30°C (59-86°F).
