Common Use

Calan Sr is prescribed to treat various conditions, including hypertension, hypertensive crisis, primary pulmonary hypertension, stenocardia, supraventricular tachycardia, sinus tachycardia, atrial tachyarrhythmia, atrial flutter, and atrial arrhythmia.

Dosage and Direction

For patients with stenocardia or supraventricular tachycardia, Calan Sr should be taken three times daily. Those with arterial hypertension should take it twice daily. Dosage varies based on the condition, age, and severity. Always consult your doctor before starting the medication.

Precautions

Calan Sr may affect thinking or reactions. Exercise caution when driving or performing tasks requiring focus and quick responses. Avoid sudden movements when standing up to prevent dizziness. Alcohol should be avoided, and consult your doctor if consuming grapefruit juice, as it may interact dangerously with Calan Sr.

Contraindications

Calan Sr is not recommended for individuals with hypersensitivity, severe arterial hypotension, pregnancy, breastfeeding, atrioventricular block (first and second degree), sinoatrial blockade, sick sinus syndrome (except for patients with a cardiostimulator), Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW), Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome combined with atrial fibrillation/flutter. Other conditions may require careful use. Only take this medication if prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects include constipation, dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure, and headaches. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe symptoms such as chest pain, irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia), slow heart rate (bradycardia), heart attacks, strokes, significant water retention, difficulty breathing, very low blood pressure, hallucinations, or allergic reactions.

Drug Interactions

Combining Calan Sr with a beta blocker may dangerously slow the heart rate. This medication can increase blood levels of digoxin, theophylline, carbamazepine, and myorelaxants, requiring monitoring to avoid toxicity. Lithium levels may be reduced in some patients.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

If you suspect an overdose and experience slow heartbeat or fainting, seek immediate medical help.

Storage

Store Calan Sr at room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F) in a light-resistant container.
