Beloc primarily blocks beta-adrenoreceptors in the heart and is used to treat conditions such as hypertension, chest pain (angina), abnormal heart rhythms, and to manage or prevent myocardial infarction. By influencing the autonomic nervous system, it reduces abnormally rapid heart rhythms, decreases myocardial irritability, and lowers cardiac output, among other effects.
Beloc should be taken with food or right after a meal. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet; swallow it with a glass of water. The dosage varies between 100-450 mg daily, depending on the condition being treated and should be determined by a physician. Elderly patients are advised to start with a 50 mg daily dose. Dosage adjustment is not required for kidney failure, but liver failure may necessitate the use of alternative beta-adrenoblockers that are not metabolized in the liver.
Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Beloc, as it can increase drowsiness and dizziness.
While generally well-tolerated, Beloc may cause side effects such as:
Exercise caution when using Beloc with calcium channel blockers or digoxin (Lanoxin), as these combinations can dangerously lower blood pressure and heart rate. Beloc may also mask early symptoms of low blood sugar, making it essential for diabetic patients to use it with care.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's less than 4 hours until your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as uneven heartbeats, shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness, fainting, or bluish-colored fingernails, as these may indicate an overdose.
Store Beloc at a temperature between 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep it in a tight, light-resistant container, and protect it from moisture.
