Baraclude (entecavir) is prescribed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and children. This nucleoside analogue works by inhibiting HBV DNA polymerase, which reduces viral replication and helps protect the liver from further damage.
Baraclude is usually taken once daily, with or without food. Tablets or oral solution should be swallowed whole. Dosage depends on age, kidney function, previous HBV treatment, and the presence of liver complications. Regular monitoring of liver function and viral load is recommended.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, liver disease, or a history of lactic acidosis. Do not stop the medication abruptly without medical supervision, as it may cause a flare‑up of hepatitis.
Do not use Baraclude if you are allergic to entecavir or any component of the formulation.
Common side effects include headache, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, or abdominal pain. Serious side effects may include lactic acidosis, liver flare, or severe allergic reactions. Seek medical attention if serious symptoms occur.
Baraclude may interact with other antiviral medications, nephrotoxic drugs, or medications that affect kidney function. Tell your doctor about all prescription drugs, over‑the‑counter products, and supplements you are taking.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose.
Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, or worsening kidney function. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.
Store Baraclude at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep the tablets or oral solution in the original container and out of reach of children.
