Azopt (brinzolamide) is prescribed for the treatment of open‑angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Azopt is usually applied as one drop in the affected eye(s) two to three times daily or as directed by your eye doctor. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and instill the drop into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any surface.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver problems, or a history of eye infections or sulfonamide allergy. Avoid wearing contact lenses while applying Azopt unless specifically advised.
Do not use Azopt if allergic to brinzolamide, sulfonamides, or any component of the eye drops.
Common side effects include:
Rare but serious side effects may include eye swelling, redness, or signs of allergic reaction. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.
Azopt may interact with other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors or medications affecting kidney function. Inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over‑the‑counter products, and supplements you are taking.
If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember and continue with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Overdose may cause eye irritation or systemic effects if excessive amounts are absorbed. Seek medical attention if overdose is suspected.
Store Azopt at room temperature, away from heat and light. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children. Avoid freezing.
