Avapro is an antihypertensive drug and an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It specifically and irreversibly blocks angiotensin receptors, reducing the biological effects of angiotensin II. These effects include vasoconstriction, stimulation of aldosterone excretion, and activation of the sympathetic nervous system. As a result, arterial pressure decreases, reducing the heart's workload. Avapro does not affect the concentration of triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, uric acid in blood plasma, or uric acid excretion in urine.
The initial dose of Avapro is 150 mg, which can be increased to 300 mg if necessary. In certain cases, such as a low-chloride diet, treatment with specific diuretics, or other conditions, a smaller initial dose may be required. Avapro should be taken once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Use Avapro with caution in patients with kidney or liver failure, congestive heart failure, or after severe vomiting or diarrhea. Caution is also advised when using this drug alongside potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium-containing medications. Avapro can cause serious harm to an unborn baby, including death, if used during the last six months of pregnancy.
Avapro is contraindicated during pregnancy, in infancy, and in individuals with hypersensitivity to the drug.
Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, or heartburn. Seek medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction, such as fever, difficulty breathing, or hives. Avapro may cause a condition leading to the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue and subsequent kidney failure. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, vomiting, dark-colored urine, or difficulty urinating.
No significant drug interactions have been reported for Avapro. However, when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium levels in the blood plasma may increase.
Do not take a double dose if you miss one. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.
Seek immediate medical help in case of overdose. Symptoms may include a fast or slow heartbeat and dizziness.
Store Avapro tablets at room temperature, between 15-30°C (59-86°F).
