Common Use

Arpamyl is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes veins and arteries, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing its workload. By blocking calcium entry into smooth muscle cells, Arpamyl helps:

• Relax arterial muscles
• Improve oxygen delivery to the heart
• Reduce peripheral resistance and blood pressure
• Slow heart rate by affecting electrical conduction

It is prescribed for hypertension, angina, and certain irregular heartbeats.

Dosage and Direction

Take Arpamyl orally with or without food. The recommended daily dose ranges from 180 mg to 480 mg, which can be taken as:

• A single dose
• Two divided doses
• Three divided doses

Always follow your doctor's instructions and never exceed the prescribed dose.

Precautions

• Avoid alcohol, grapefruit, and grapefruit juice
• Alcohol may worsen dizziness or drowsiness
• Grapefruit interferes with drug absorption
• Rise slowly from sitting/lying positions to prevent dizziness

Contraindications

Do not use Arpamyl if you have:

• Hypersensitivity to its components
• Severe left ventricular dysfunction
• Low blood pressure (under 90 mm Hg)
• Cardiogenic shock
• Sick sinus syndrome (without pacemaker)
• Advanced heart block (without pacemaker)
• Certain heart rhythm disorders (e.g., Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome)

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Swelling in legs/ankles
• Headache
• Constipation
• Skin rash

Serious reactions (jaundice, breathing difficulties, severe rash) require immediate medical attention.

Drug Interactions

Arpamyl interacts with:

• Alcohol (increased effects)
• Doxorubicin (enhanced efficacy)
• Certain chemotherapy drugs (reduced absorption)
• Digoxin (requires dose adjustment)
• Blood pressure medications (additive effects)

Discuss all medications with your doctor, especially:

1. Antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine)
2. Phenobarbital
3. Cyclosporine
4. Lithium products

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose:

• Take it as soon as remembered
• Skip if close to next scheduled dose
• Never double dose

Overdose
