Aristocort is a corticosteroid medication used to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching. It is commonly prescribed for conditions like psoriasis, eczema, lupus, dermatitis, anal or vulvar itching, external ear inflammation, allergic disorders, ulcerative colitis, and arthritis.
Dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with specific medical conditions, including cirrhosis, kidney impairment, thyroid disorders, diabetes, history of malaria, tuberculosis, osteoporosis, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma, cataracts, herpes eye infections, stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, depression, mental illness, congestive heart failure, and high blood pressure.
Steroids play a vital role in many bodily processes, and their use can impact various diseases. Inform your doctor of any serious illnesses, infections, fevers, surgeries, or medical emergencies. Avoid contact with sick or infected individuals, as steroids may weaken your immune system. "Live" vaccines are not recommended while taking Aristocort. Do not stop treatment abruptly to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
Aristocort should not be used by patients allergic to triamcinolone or those with fungal infections anywhere in the body.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience vision problems, swelling, rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, severe depression, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizures, bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood, pancreatitis, low potassium levels, or dangerously high blood pressure while taking Aristocort.
Aristocort may interact with medications such as aspirin, diuretics, blood thinners (warfarin), cyclosporine, oral insulin or diabetes medications, ketoconazole, rifampin, and seizure medications like phenytoin or phenobarbital.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose. Resume your regular dosing schedule the next day.
Long-term excessive use of Aristocort may cause symptoms such as roundness of the face, rapid weight gain, increased facial hair growth, bruising, muscle pain, or weakness.
Store Aristocort at room temperature in a tightly sealed container, away from moisture, sunlight, children, and pets.
