Arimidex is used to lower estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, slowing the growth of certain cancer tumors. It works by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, thereby reducing estrogen production.
Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding treatment and dosing schedules. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage. Take Arimidex once daily.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have severe liver disease, a history of stroke or blood clots, heart disease, circulation problems, or if you have not yet completed menopause. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage if you have these conditions. Treatment with Arimidex may continue for up to five years. This medication may impair your ability to concentrate or react quickly, so exercise caution while driving or operating machinery.
Do not use Arimidex if you are premenopausal, pregnant, breastfeeding, have severe kidney disorders, moderate to severe liver diseases, or are hypersensitive to Arimidex or its components. Avoid using estrogen-containing preparations with Arimidex, as they may neutralize its effect.
Common side effects include allergic reactions (hives, skin rash, facial swelling, difficulty breathing), sudden headaches, confusion, vision problems, speech or balance issues, numbness or weakness on one side of the body, bone fractures, swollen glands, or swelling in the hands or feet. Less serious side effects like hot flashes, sore throat, weakness, back pain, bone pain, and nausea may also occur.
Inform your doctor if you are taking tamoxifen, estrogen, or any other prescription or over-the-counter medications, herbal products, vitamins, or food supplements.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
There is limited information about Arimidex overdose. If you suspect you have taken too much, contact your doctor immediately.
Store Arimidex at room temperature (20-25°C or 68-77°F), away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. Do not store it in the bathroom or in places accessible to children.
