Common Use

Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and skin infections. It is also used to treat Helicobacter pylori in combination therapy for stomach ulcers. Amoxicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.

Dosage and Direction

Amoxicillin is taken orally, usually 2-3 times a day, with or without food. The dose depends on the type and severity of infection, as well as patient age and kidney function. It's important to complete the full course even if symptoms improve early.

Precautions

• It may also interact with allopurinol (increased risk of rash).
• Interactions with anticoagulants like warfarin can increase bleeding risk. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or crystalluria (crystals in urine). In severe cases, kidney function may be affected. Seek medical help immediately if an overdose is suspected.

Storage

• Store amoxicillin capsules or tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
• Liquid suspension should be refrigerated and used within the prescribed time.
• Keep out of reach of children.
