Albenza is prescribed to treat tapeworm infections by preventing the worm from absorbing sugar, causing it to lose energy and die. It is also effective against various worm infections caused by organisms such as Taenia solium, cystic hydatid disease of the liver, peritoneum, or lung (caused by the larval form of the dog tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus), common roundworms (ascariasis), cutaneous larva migrans, pinworms (enterobiasis or oxyuriasis), hookworms (ancylostomiasis and necatoriasis), whipworms (trichuriasis), strongyloidiasis, and trichostrongyliasis.
Take Albenza twice daily with meals. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Swallow the tablets whole with a small amount of liquid.
Albenza is contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity to its components and for pregnant individuals. Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Contact your doctor if you experience any of these serious side effects.
Inform your doctor about all medications and herbal products you are using, especially dexamethasone, praziquantel, cimetidine, and theophylline.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not take double doses.
Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
Store Albenza at a temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F), away from light and out of reach of children.
