The main component of Addyi is flibanserin - 100 mg. Flibanserin preferentially activates 5-HT1A receptors in the prefrontal cortex, demonstrating regional selectivity. It has been found to increase dopamine and norepinephrine levels while decreasing serotonin levels in the rat prefrontal cortex, actions mediated by the activation of the 5-HT1A receptor.
Addyi is taken orally at a dosage of 100 mg once daily at bedtime for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). The onset of flibanserin's effect is typically observed after 4 weeks of treatment and is maintained throughout the treatment period. If no improvement in symptoms is observed after 4 weeks, discontinue use. Addyi is not indicated to enhance sexual performance and is not approved for use in postmenopausal women or men. It is specifically indicated for premenopausal women with acquired, generalized HSDD characterized by low sexual desire causing marked distress or interpersonal difficulty, not due to co-existing medical or psychiatric conditions, relationship issues, or medication effects.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting flibanserin, especially if you have allergies to this drug or other allergies. Avoid alcohol while taking Addyi, as it may cause dangerously low blood pressure. Do not use Addyi if you have:

Do not consume alcohol with Addyi, as it can cause dangerous side effects. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as they may interact with flibanserin. Do not use herbal supplements containing ginkgo biloba, resveratrol, or St. John's wort. Addyi is contraindicated for patients taking other medications for HSDD or drugs for high blood pressure. It is not approved for use by men or individuals under 18 years old.
Seek emergency medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Contact your doctor immediately if you feel very drowsy or light-headed. Common side effects of Addyi may include dizziness, nausea, fatigue, dry mouth, sleepiness, or trouble sleeping. Taking Addyi with other drugs that cause drowsiness or lower blood pressure can worsen its effects. Consult your doctor before using Addyi with sleeping pills, narcotic pain medications, muscle relaxers, or drugs for anxiety, depression, or seizures. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including cimetidine, ginkgo biloba, resveratrol, and St. John's wort. Your doctor may adjust your treatment plan if you are using antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, heart or blood pressure medications, or HIV/AIDS drugs.
