Aciclovir is an antiviral medication that mimics the molecular structure of purine nucleosides. It is effective in treating viral infections such as cold sores and inhibiting the growth of viruses like Herpes simplex, Varicella zoster (responsible for chickenpox and shingles), Epstein Barr Virus (linked to glandular fever), and to a lesser extent, Cytomegalovirus (CMV). It also aids in preventing genital herpes and viral infections in individuals with weakened immune systems. Additionally, Aciclovir can reduce the duration of pain after sores heal and minimize the risk of the virus spreading to other body parts, particularly in immunocompromised patients.
Take Aciclovir orally with or without food, typically 2 to 5 times daily as prescribed. Always take it with a glass of water and at regular intervals. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve. For liquid formulations, shake the bottle well before use and measure the dose with a proper measuring device. Avoid using household spoons to ensure accurate dosing. Dosage adjustments are based on medical condition, response to treatment, and for children, body weight.
Consult your healthcare provider before using Aciclovir if you have kidney disease, allergies, or are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor about all medications, including prescription, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Aciclovir can pass into breast milk, so discuss breastfeeding with your healthcare provider before starting treatment.
Aciclovir Injection is not recommended for individuals with hypersensitivity to aciclovir or valaciclovir.

Store Aciclovir at a controlled room temperature between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Keep it out of reach of children and do not share the medication. Use it only for the prescribed purpose.
