Aceon is primarily believed to work by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity. It is commonly prescribed for patients with arterial hypertension, chronic heart failure, and to prevent recurrent stroke in individuals who have experienced a stroke or transient ischemic attack. Additionally, it is used in patients with stable coronary heart disease to reduce complications.
Take Aceon orally before a meal, as a single daily dose at the same time each day. For arterial hypertension, the typical starting dose is 4 mg, which may be increased to a maximum of 8 mg per day. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration of use.
Aceon can cause serious harm to the fetus, including potential fatality, if used during the last six months of pregnancy. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements without consulting your doctor.
Aceon should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to its components, a history of angioneurotic edema, or those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or infants. Its safety and effectiveness in these populations have not been established.
Common side effects include headache, dry cough, nausea, unusual weakness, back pain, and diarrhea. Notify your doctor if these symptoms occur. Rare but serious side effects may include arterial hypotension, chest pain, anemia, elevated hemoglobin levels (early in treatment), and potentially fatal liver issues.
Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription drugs. Be cautious with anesthetics, narcotic pain relievers, lithium, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, high blood pressure medications, trimethoprim-containing drugs, and aspirin-like medications. Avoid substances that may increase heart rate, such as decongestants or caffeine.
If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.
Overdose symptoms may include extreme dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Store Aceon at room temperature between 59-86°F (15-30°C), away from light and moisture.
